This paper examines the socio-cultural transformation in Metro City during the period 1932–1945. Specifically, it discusses the impactof the Ethical Policy, namely the colonization program (now transmigration)that brought together two different ethnic groups, namely the Javanese immigrants and the indigenous people of. This paper shows that colonization encouraged economic, social, and cultural interactionbetween the Javanese colonists and the Lampung people. Thisnaturally led to changes in tradition and the formation of a new identity. This study uses historical methods, namely heuristics, criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The sources used include books, oral sources (interviews) which are the collective memories of the actors ofcolonization, as well as a private collection of Metro colonization photo archives.Through these sources, it is possible to understand how colonial transmigration policies, patterns of community adaptation, and the negotiation of cultural valuesresulted in a distinctive multicultural social landscape in Metro.
