UIN Public Relations \u2013 Professor at the Faculty of Sharia, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Dr. K.H. Amin Suma, M.A., served as a guest speaker at the orientation for new graduate students at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten on Saturday (September 5, 2026). The event, which took place in the Sjadzli Hasan Auditorium, had the theme \u201cThe Smart Campus Ecosystem in Realizing Higher Education Transformation\u201d<\/i>.<\/p>\n
In his presentation, Prof. Amin Suma highlighted the fundamental aspects of educational transformation, which, in his view, must begin with an understanding of human nature and the drive to continue moving forward in a structured manner. He emphasized the importance of advancing academic qualifications\u2014from the bachelor\u2019s degree through the master\u2019s and on to the doctorate\u2014as a tangible form of personal transformation.<\/p>\n
Drawing on Islamic philosophical and scholarly thought, Prof. Amin Suma explained that the word \u201chuman\u201d (al-insan<\/i>) has noble intellectual, rational, and spiritual dimensions. Citing the views of Ibn Qayyim, he asserts that human beings are characterized by the ongoing movement<\/i>, namely a regular and structured movement.<\/p>\n
\u201cTruly well-rounded individuals are those whose minds and bodies are constantly active in a disciplined manner. In an academic context, transformation must be demonstrated through sensitivity to one\u2019s surroundings, a mindset that refuses to stagnate, and the courage to move beyond merely being a follower (muqallid<\/i>) to become critical and analytical scholars,\u201d he emphasized before the orientation participants.<\/p>\n
In addition to highlighting the dynamics of academic movements, Prof. Amin Suma also discussed the importance of taking pride in the national language within the higher education community. He commended the achievements of the Indonesian language, which is now increasingly recognized internationally, including by UNESCO. According to him, academics at state-run Islamic higher education institutions (PTKIN) should not feel inferior or out of place when using their own language and academic terminology.<\/p>\n
He added that the spirit of learning should not be limited by age or professional status. His decades of experience serving in the field of education, his dedication to the judicial system, and his publication of scholarly works should inspire students to continue to aim high.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor master\u2019s and doctoral students, personal transformation is a must. Elevate your capabilities from merely understanding the fundamentals of a discipline to becoming individuals capable of making independent and substantial scholarly contributions. Knowledge dies if it is not applied, written down, and discussed,\u201d said Prof. Amin Suma, encouraging the students.<\/p>\n
Through this activity, it is hoped that the new students at UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten will internalize academic values, develop a strong passion for learning, and be ready to actively contribute to building the ecosystem smart campus<\/i> that is sustainable.<\/p>\n
