UIN Public Relations \u2013 The Graduate Program (PPs) at Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin (SMH) State Islamic University (UIN) Banten held a new student orientation with the theme \u201cThe Smart Campus Ecosystem in Realizing Higher Education Transformation\u201d in the Sjadzli Hasan Auditorium on Saturday (September 5, 2026). This event served as the first step in aligning the academic vision and strengthening the research integrity of all new master\u2019s and doctoral students.<\/p>\n
The annual event was attended by the First Vice Rector, the Director and Deputy Director of the Graduate School, the Chairs of the Study Programs, and Prof. Dr. H. M. Amin Suma, a full professor at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta.<\/p>\n
The Director of the Graduate School at UIN SMH Banten, Prof. Dr. H. Wasehudin, M.Si., expressed his appreciation for the high level of public interest in pursuing graduate studies at the university. This year, the UIN SMH Banten Graduate School officially admitted 277 new students from various regions. In his remarks, Prof. Wasehudin emphasized that pursuing knowledge requires dedication, determination, and sincerity in order to bring blessings.<\/p>\n
Prof. Wasehudin reminded students that graduate studies should not merely be a means to obtain a degree, but rather a forum for exploring knowledge and wisdom that will shape future leaders. Students were urged to emulate the perseverance of past scholars, such as Imam Bukhari, who was willing to travel great distances to verify the authenticity of a single hadith.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet us explore knowledge and wisdom that will lead to honor, so that in the future, high-quality leaders will emerge. I am confident that from this class, future national leaders will emerge\u2014whether presidents, governors, or regents,\u201d said Prof. Wasehudin.<\/p>\n
The Director of the Graduate School also urged students to cultivate the habit of critical thinking, to conduct research diligently, and to write productively while upholding academic integrity. Students are expected not only to pursue high grades but also to seek the substance of knowledge so that, together, they can help build civilization.<\/p>\n
On the same occasion, the First Vice Rector of UIN SMH Banten, Prof. Dr. H. Nana Jumhana, M.Ag., expressed his appreciation and extended a warm welcome on behalf of the Rector. The increase in the number of graduate students is seen as a positive indicator of the university leadership\u2019s progress toward achieving its long-term goals. UIN SMH Banten envisions becoming a leading university with an international reputation that makes a broad impact on society, in line with the Indonesia Emas 2045 roadmap.<\/p>\n
During the session to align perspectives, Prof. Nana outlined the fundamental differences regarding intellectual responsibility at each level of education based on Law No. 12 of 2012 on Higher Education and Presidential Regulation No. 8 of 2012 on the Indonesian National Qualifications Framework (KKNI). According to her, the level of education determines the mindset, discussion patterns, and research methods that must be applied.<\/p>\n
Prof. Nana explained that the bachelor\u2019s degree (S1) program is at KKNI Level 6, which focuses on the mastery and application of knowledge. Meanwhile, the master\u2019s degree (S2) program is at KKNI Level 8, which requires students to critically analyze, test, and develop knowledge. At the doctoral level (S3) or KKNI Level 9, students are required to be able to discover, create, and contribute new and original scientific knowledge.<\/p>\n
\u201cA higher level of education requires changes in learning styles and ways of thinking. Master\u2019s students are expected to be critical learners and researchers capable of producing well-founded work, while doctoral students must act as independent researchers who generate novelty and make tangible contributions to the advancement of science,\u201d explained Prof. Nana.<\/p>\n
Through this orientation, all new students are expected to quickly adapt to the applicable academic standards, cultivate a culture of critically reading scientific articles, and be prepared to contribute to research that benefits society and the nation.<\/p>\n
