38 Faculty Members Officially Installed: Here Is the Advice from Rector Prof. Muhammad Ishom

UIN Public Relations – The Rector of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin (SMH) State Islamic University (UIN) Banten, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ishom, M.A., provided strategic guidance and inspired the academics during the Inauguration and Oath-Taking Ceremony for the Appointment of Assistant Lecturers and Lecturers. The event, which took place in the Multipurpose Hall on the 3rd floor of the UIN SMH Banten Rectorate Building, served as an important moment for educators to reaffirm their intentions and focus their energy on achieving the highest academic ranks.

This event was officially organized by the Bureau of General Administration, Planning, Finance, and Human Resources (AUPK). The inauguration ceremony and oath-taking were presided over by the Head of the AUPK Bureau at UIN SMH Banten, Dr. Zaenuri, S.Ag., M.Hum., who successfully inaugurated 38 lecturers as they were promoted to the functional ranks of Assistant Expert and Lecturer.

In his keynote address, the Rector emphasized that the true dignity of an academic lies in the achievements made in their professional role, not in how high a position of structural leadership they hold on campus.

“The pinnacle of a professor’s career is not, in essence, becoming a university president or holding other administrative positions, but rather attaining the honorary title of Full Professor. Becoming a university president is a matter of fate and merely an additional duty assigned by the state, whereas the true dignity and career of a pure educator lie in the continuous advancement of their functional rank,” emphasized Prof. Muhammad Ishom before the inauguration attendees on Tuesday (August 1, 2026).

In addition to reminding everyone of the fundamental nature of a professor’s dedication, Prof. Muhammad Ishom also highlighted the evolving challenges in higher education that will require professors to move beyond working in isolation. The rector strongly urged every academic to cast aside the mindset of working alone and to begin prioritizing a spirit of collaboration among faculty members in order to achieve optimal results.

“In this era of modern collaboration, we can no longer afford to be self-centered or work in isolation. The entire academic community must increase interdisciplinary collaboration so that we can accelerate our career advancement and achieve great accomplishments together,” the Rector added in his remarks.

In his presentation, the Rector also emphasized the importance of research obligations within the current academic career development system in Indonesia. He explained that faculty members are required not only to focus on routine classroom teaching but also to proactively produce innovative research that is widely published.

“It is important to always remember that research currently plays a vital role in the academic world. There is a minimum threshold of 40 percent of the total workload that every faculty member must meet if they wish to advance smoothly to the next career level,” said Prof. Muhammad Ishom.

The Rector provided a comprehensive explanation of just how complex the responsibilities of lecturers in Indonesia are compared to those of educators in other countries. Academics in Indonesia are expected to consistently maintain a balanced and tangible implementation of the three pillars of higher education. This includes excellence in teaching students, rigor in conducting research, and a high level of dedication to serving the community and solving its problems.

“I have high hopes that the faculty members who have just been appointed as Assistant Lecturers and Lecturers will continue to push themselves and stay motivated. Take the leap as quickly as possible toward becoming a Senior Lecturer, so that eventually we can all reach the highest pinnacle together as Full Professors,” said the Rector, offering words of encouragement at the end of his remarks.
