FUDA I Tuesday (27 May 2025) - The Student Association of the Aqidah and Islamic Philosophy Study Program (HMPS AFI) of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin State Islamic University (UIN SMH) Banten successfully organized the activity of A place to read and study (TEBAK) on [insert date], at the lobby of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab (FUDA), Campus 2 UIN SMH Banten on May 27, 2025.
With the theme “Literacy, Analysis, and Action”, This activity aims to encourage students to foster a love of literacy-both reading and writing-while developing critical thinking and a reflective attitude towards social and spiritual realities.
Theme Meaning: “Literacy, Analysis, and Action”
- Literacy reading is defined as a process of absorbing knowledge with full awareness and high curiosity, not just technical reading skills. This activity encourages students to read actively and deeply, explore implied values, and enrich insights as a basis for growing intellectual and spiritual awareness.
- Analyze is the process of processing information from reading into critical thinking. Students are trained to question meaning, weigh perspectives, and explore the relevance of texts to real life.
- Take action is a form of responsibility from the literacy and analysis process. This action can be in the form of writing reflections, conveying ideas, organizing, to behavioral changes that are more aware and care about themselves and society.
SAY: An Open, Free and Inclusive Literacy Space
TEBAK (Place of Reading and Study) is an initiative of the Study and Research Department of HMPS AFI as a collective space to foster a culture of reading and critical thinking in a relaxed yet meaningful atmosphere. This activity lasted one full day, divided into two main sessions:
- Reading Stall - Books from students are brought and laid out in the FUDA courtyard to be accessed freely by anyone without conditions. Anyone can choose, read, and enjoy literacy in an open atmosphere. No fees, no restrictions, just a peaceful space to explore the world through reading.
- Discussion Review - Held in the afternoon in the form of an open discussion without a podium, participants sit in a circle and share ideas from the readings. This discussion emphasizes openness, honesty, and mutual enrichment between participants. TEBAK is a place to grow, not a place to patronize.
Purpose of the TEBAK Activity
- Fostering a culture of literacy through open and free reading spaces.
- Encourage active, reflective and deep reading habits.
- Open discussion to train critical thinking and communication.
- Revive public space as a place to exchange ideas and scientific values.
- Provides access to books without conditions and restrictions.
- Cultivate the courage to convey the results of reading and thinking.
- Develop collaborative learning based on literacy and reflection.
Benefits of the TEBAK Activity
- Increase interest in reading in an informal, comfortable and fun atmosphere.
- Form a natural reading habit without pressure.
- Train critical thinking and communication skills.
- Develop confidence in discussion.
- Building a vibrant and sustainable literacy ecosystem.
- Bringing students from different backgrounds together through knowledge and solidarity.
- Hone the skill of expressing opinions openly.
- Making literacy a lifestyle that touches on academic, social and spiritual aspects.
This TEBAK activity is clear evidence that literacy does not only belong to the classroom or library, but can live in the middle of the campus yard - in an inclusive and meaningful shared space. With the spirit of “Literate, Analyze, and Act”, AFI UIN SMH Banten students show that reading is not only an academic activity, but a way to change themselves and society.
