IPII Study Program Organizes Digital Library Seminar Activities

FUDA I Tuesday (October 29, 2024) - The Islamic Library and Information Science Study Program, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten held a digital library seminar with the theme Digital Library, Innovative Library 5.0, from Hybrid Library to Digital and Virtual Library on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 at the Fuda Hall, 2nd floor.

Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab Mohamad Hudaeri in his remarks said that from the development of the digital world, especially about the development of AI. it is an extraordinary development, if there are tips on tiktok to make a research proposal in just 5 minutes. when I went to UGM, the library had all the books scanned, we will also buy them here so that the books below are all scanned and then can be accessed for those who want, or we usually create a server.

Head of the IPII Study Program Hadian Rizani in his remarks said that our seminar raised the Digital Library, which I believe is very much in line with my era. What makes it much different from my time, especially the dean's time, if my time was when I was in college in 2000, to make scientific papers or theses we had to go back and forth to the library, go around opening shelves, borrowing was limited in number. but now it is enough to sit sweetly in the room, holding our cellphones, we can already access so many books and references. this is a development that I think is very good and positive in writing scientific papers. This may not have been felt in the past by generations like me, and others in the past. and it is also very possible that in the future the development of this technology can be very powerful. then we who are in this era must be prepared to welcome, of course later the positives and negatives so that we do not become people who fail with such technological developments. hopefully later the information that will be provided by the resource person on this theme,

The guest speaker in this seminar was Dwi Fajar Saputra, a lecturer from UPN Veteran Jakarta, who discussed the development of innovation in digital libraries, which includes concepts, development models, and the latest technology trends that support digital libraries. Some of the aspects reviewed were:

1. Digital Library Development Model: Digital libraries can be built using two main models: infrastructure-based and cloud computing. The infrastructure model emphasizes security, sustainability, and accessibility, while cloud computing is more flexible, adapts to needs, and takes advantage of local infrastructure limitations.

2. Supporting Technologies: Technologies that support the development of digital libraries include cloud computing, artificial intelligence, mobile technology, and immersive technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality. These technologies enable libraries to provide more interactive and integrated services.

3. Key Components*: The essential components of a digital library include digital collections, technology infrastructure, user interface, metadata, access rights, security, user services, and policies and standards. The relationship between these components ensures effective operations and good content accessibility for users.

4. Global Trends and Challenges in Indonesia: In Indonesia, innovation in digital libraries is still limited, often focusing more on administrative aspects rather than technological innovation. This is in contrast to other countries such as Australia that are more advanced in their digital library development. One of the challenges is how to utilize the potential of technology to develop more effective digital library services.

The speakers also highlighted the importance of collaboration between libraries and stakeholders, as well as the use of data analytics to improve service quality.
