Pancasila Sakti and When Parliament is Not the People's Representative

The Pancasila Independence Day in 2025 is appropriate to reflect on the fourth precept of the phenomenon of public anxiety towards parliament, which was doubted as a representative of the people when ojeg driver Affan Kurniawan was run over by a Brimob rantis on August 28, 2025 in front of the DPR / MPR RI Building, Central Jakarta. Departing from this event, Pancasila as the philosophy of life (way of life) of the Indonesian nation still has an important role in everyday life, especially in the context of parliament which should be the embodiment of the people. However, when the parliament does not fully represent the people, the application of Pancasila values becomes a serious challenge.

Pancasila in Daily Life

Pancasila has five precepts that serve as the foundation for the Indonesian people in carrying out their daily lives. The values of Pancasila, such as “Democracy Led by Wisdom in Consultation/Representation”. This means that the supreme power in the state is in the hands of the people, and decisions are made through deliberation and consensus by considering the common interest. Now, the important values in the fourth precept are democracy and representation. The supreme power is in the hands of the people, and the people have the right to determine their own fate. In representation, the decision-making mechanism is through representatives elected by the people to represent their aspirations.
In practicing the fourth precept in daily life is to prioritize deliberation and respect the opinions of others. These two experiences in making decisions together by considering the interests of all parties, and providing opportunities for others to express their opinions and respecting differences in opinion.

Challenges in Realizing Pancasila

In the context of parliament, the main challenge is to ensure that members of parliament truly represent the voice of the people and carry out their duties in accordance with the values of Pancasila. Some of the challenges faced include. First, lack of representation of the people. A parliament that does not fully represent the people can lead to policies that are not in line with the needs of the community. Second, corruption and abuse of power. Corrupt practices and abuse of power can undermine public trust in parliament and government.

Actualization of Pancasila Values

To overcome these challenges, it is necessary to actualize the values of Pancasila in the life of the nation and state. Some ways that can be done include. First, education and cultivation of Pancasila values. Pancasila education needs to be improved to form a young generation that has national awareness and good ethics. Second, supervision and accountability. Namely, increasing oversight and accountability in government and parliament to prevent corruption and abuse of power. Third, public participation. Namely, increasing public participation in the decision-making process to ensure that policies are taken in accordance with the needs of the people.

Thus, Pancasila is facing severe and serious challenges today. By applying the values of Pancasila in daily life, especially the fourth precept, and increasing national awareness, we can build a more just, democratic and prosperous society. For this reason, it is hoped that there will be no more repressive actions by the authorities against the people or anarchist actions by the people against institutions or persons in parliament and government.
