Serang, Monday, June 23, 2025 - The Student Executive Board (DEMA) of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab (FUDA) UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten held a seminar entitled “Old Manuscripts, the Voice of the Undying: The Role of Philology in Preserving Cultural Heritage” at FUDA Hall, 2nd floor.
The event was attended by the dean, lecturers, education staff, and FUDA students. In addition, representatives of student organizations from the Faculty of Adab and Language of UIN Surakarta were also present in the event. comparative study among student organizations.
Vice Chancellor I, Prof. Mufti Ali, M.A., Ph.D., in his speech conveyed the importance of understanding manuscripts from various aspects such as history, content, and social function. He hoped that the knowledge gained from this seminar could be maximally utilized by students.
Vice Dean II, Dr. Hj Eva Syarifah, He added that manuscripts are the bridge between the past and the present. He mentioned the name Husein Djajadiningrat, The first philologist from Banten and the father of modern Indonesian history, is an important figure in manuscript preservation.
Chairman of DEMA FUDA, Ade Furqon, said that this seminar was also a momentum for conducting comparative studies with UIN Surakarta, especially between HMPS in the Faculty of Adab and Language.
Chairman of DEMA of the Faculty of Arts and Languages UIN Surakarta, Hana Nurfaidah, said that in his faculty there are courses such as philology and the History of Islamic Civilization (SPI), and hopes that this comparative study will strengthen the relationship between students.
Meanwhile, in his presentation, Dr. Rakeeman R.A.M Juman, D.D., He explained that there are seven types of letters used in ancient manuscripts. He mentioned manuscripts from Banten that used pure Arabic letters and Pegon script. One of the important manuscripts discussed was “Kawihaji Panca Pasagi Candra Sengkala Budha” from the time of Prabu Wisesa in 1533 AD, written in Old Sundanese.
He also said that Imam Al-Ghazali not only known as a master of Sufism, but also mastered Christian theology, and wrote a book discussing the Gospels.
