FUDA I Tuesday (June 03, 2025) - A real effort to implement the concept of Ecotheology initiated by the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemenag RI) to strengthen awareness of the importance of environmental conservation, the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab (FUDA) Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin State Islamic University (UIN SMH) Banten held an action of planting Matoa tree seedlings. This symbolic and meaningful activity was held in Campus 2 UIN SMH Banten on Tuesday, June 3, 2025.
The planting event was carried out by the Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab UIN SMH Banten, Dr. Moh. Hudaeri, M.Ag., along with the vice dean, head of administration, head of study program, secretary of study program, lecturers, and staff. Matoa Tree (Pometia pinnata), The plant, known as a typical Papuan fruit plant with various ecological and economic benefits, was chosen to be planted as a symbol of commitment to biodiversity and campus greening.
Dean of FUDA UIN SMH Banten, Dr. H. Moh. Hudaeri, in his speech said that this activity is an integral part of academic and religious responsibilities. “Ecotheology teaches us that caring for the universe is part of a form of faith and piety to Allah SWT. Through this Matoa tree planting, we provide a concrete example of how Islamic values can be implemented in maintaining the balance of the ecosystem, especially in our beloved campus environment,” said Dr. Hudaeri.
He added that the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab actively continues to encourage studies and concrete actions related to Ecotheology, which views nature as a gift from God that must be maintained and preserved, not just exploited.
This tree planting activity is expected to not only stop as a ceremony, but become the first step of various other environmental sustainability programs at UIN SMH Banten, in line with the spirit of Ecotheology which combines spirituality and ecological concerns.
