FUDA I Monday (December 23, 2024) - Today is a day full of enthusiasm for HMPS IPII Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten with the Library Festival (LIBFEST) 2024. The event was officially opened with remarks from the Chief Executive, Intan Nur Kamila, who expressed great hope that LIBFEST could be a forum for developing the abilities of the younger generation, especially Gen Z.
Chairperson of the Islamic Library and Information Science Study Program, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab UIN SMH Banten Hadian Rizani in his remarks appreciated the efforts of the entire committee, especially HMPS IPII who had successfully held LIBFEST in the midst of the busy Semester Final Examination. “Even though the preparation took place in the midst of busy activities, they were able to carry out this activity well. Hopefully the material presented by the speakers today can be digested well and disseminated to other friends,” he said.
LIBFEST 2024 presented various interesting activities such as vocal solo competitions and fashion shows, which became a stage for the creativity and talent of the participants. Not only that, this event also became a special moment with the announcement of the winners of the competition.
The highlight of the event was the National Seminar entitled “Multidimensional Literacy for the Next Generation”. This seminar presented an extraordinary resource person, Mr. Aip Rochadi, S.IP., who has won an award as a Literacy Activist in the 2024 Islamic Library Award. His presence and Mr. Very Mardianto as the Secretary of the Islamic Library and Information Science Study Program added scientific weight to this discussion.
his seminar highlighted the importance of literacy in forming resilient individuals and communities. In Indonesia, especially in the Banten region, there are major challenges related to the decline in average IQ and various social symptoms that reflect low literacy levels. Literacy is not only seen as the ability to read, but also the ability to understand, evaluate and improve continuously to produce better work. Literacy is the key to improving human quality that supports infrastructure development, investment and civilization.

One of the proposed initiatives is Book Party, a movement that aims to increase people's interest in reading through regular reading activities and discussions with the community. Through this movement, readers not only enjoy the content of books but also improve their public speaking skills and build harmonious social relationships. This discussion is expected to be applied in various environments, such as families, educational institutions, and workplaces, thus forming the habit of reading as a lifestyle.
Library institutions play a strategic role in supporting readers' needs. For this reason, libraries need to go beyond the standards set by the government and meet the various literacy needs of the community. This is to ensure the sustainability of literacy by providing better access to knowledge sources.
Literacy is not only about reading books, but also assisting all forms of community development. With strong literacy, people are able to understand situations, respond to challenges and contribute significantly to sustainable development. Literate individuals are those who are able to evaluate themselves, accept feedback and continuously improve the quality of their lives and work.
With the spirit of togetherness and high enthusiasm, LIBFEST 2024 is expected to be a real step in creating a smarter, more creative and insightful young generation, in line with the vision of multidimensional literacy.
