To Improve Students“ Digital Literacy, Group 10 of UIN’s Integrative PLP Program Holds a ”Think Before You Prompt” Seminar at SMAN CMBBS

UIN Public Relations – Students from Group 10 of the Integrative PLP program held a digital literacy seminar titled “Think Before You Prompt” at SMAN CMBBS on Friday, October 16, 2026. This event was organized to help students better understand how to use artificial intelligence (AI) wisely, critically, safely, and responsibly in their daily lives and learning activities.

The seminar covered various important topics related to the use of AI, ranging from how to formulate the right commands or prompts, to assessing the accuracy of the information generated, to understanding the limitations of this technology. Participants were also encouraged to recognize that AI is a tool that can support the learning process, but it cannot fully replace human thinking, creativity, judgment, and responsibility.

Dr. Dony Hutabarat, S.Kom., M.Eng., emphasized the importance of verifying any information obtained through AI. According to him, answers provided by AI are not always correct and still need to be checked against reliable sources. A critical mindset is essential so that users do not immediately accept or share information without first verifying its accuracy and truthfulness.

In addition to discussing information verification, the presenter also reminded students to protect their privacy when using various AI-based platforms. Personal data—such as identity information, passwords, addresses, phone numbers, and important documents—should never be entered carelessly into digital systems. Awareness of data security is a crucial part of digital literacy, especially amid the rapid pace of technological advancement.

Participants are also encouraged to continue thinking independently and not to rely on AI as their sole source of answers. AI should be used to help generate ideas, understand the material, outline a paper, or explore various perspectives. However, the final results must still be understood, reviewed, and developed by the user using their own abilities and critical thinking.

Through the “Think Before You Prompt” seminar, the students in Group 10 of the Integrative PLP program hope that the students at SMAN CMBBS can become smarter, more responsible, and more ethical users of technology. This event is also expected to raise awareness that technological advancements must be balanced with critical thinking skills, a concern for data security, and a prudent approach to using digital information.
