The event was led directly by the Acting Rector, who also serves as Vice Rector II, accompanied by Vice Rector I, Vice Rector III, the Head of the AUPK Bureau, the Head of the AAKK Bureau, all deans of the faculties, heads of general affairs departments from the rector’s office down to the faculty level, as well as the entire academic community of UIN SMH Banten.
The delegation of UIN SMH Banten’s leadership and academic community was warmly welcomed by the Secretary of the Maulana Hasanuddin Banten Sultanate Endowment Board (BKKMHB), Kyai TB Imam Mahdi Syaf. In his remarks, he expressed his gratitude and asked all those present to offer prayers for one of the BKKMHB’s Board of Trustees, who has been battling an illness for the past two years. He expressed the hope that the collective prayers would bring healing to the individual in question.

Furthermore, the Secretary of BKKMHB extended his congratulations on the 64th anniversary of UIN SMH Banten. He expressed his hope that this state Islamic university would continue to serve as an agent of change, generating concrete actions and exerting a broad positive influence in line with this year’s theme, namely Ignite, Impact, and Inspire Change. The university also invited the entire UIN SMH Banten community to once again attend the annual “Haul Sultan” event, which is typically held on the 29th night of Ramadan and features activities such as providing aid to orphans, the completion of the recitation of all 30 juz of the Quran, a communal iftar, and congregational Tarawih prayers.
Meanwhile, the Acting Rector of UIN SMH Banten, Dr. Ali Muhtarom, explained that this pilgrimage is a sacred tradition marking the beginning of the 64th anniversary celebrations. He noted that the Rector of UIN SMH Banten was unable to attend in person because he has been performing the umrah pilgrimage since the 29th.
According to Dr. Ali Muhtarom, this spiritual pilgrimage is not only intended to visit the tomb of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin of Banten, but will also include visits to the founders, former rectors, leaders, and figures who have made significant contributions to the university’s development. The pilgrimage is scheduled to include visits to the graves of past figures, starting with Prof. K.H. Wahab, Prof. Syadeli Hasan, and Prof. Fauzul Iman, and concluding with a visit to the grave of Prof. H.M. Tihami in Pontang.

“Why do we undertake this pilgrimage or spiritual visit? ”Because, fundamentally, we really need it—not only to honor our leaders, but especially since Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin of Banten has been honored by having the UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten campus named after him,” said Dr. Ali Muhtarom before the congregation and the board of trustees.
He added that the exemplary character of Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin of Banten—known as both a religious scholar and a statesman—should be reflected upon and deeply understood by the entire academic community. It is hoped that these values of leadership and scholarship will serve as a source of inspiration and guidance, ensuring that the campus community remains steadfast in fulfilling the mandate of Islamic higher education.

The series of events celebrating the 64th anniversary of UIN SMH Banten is scheduled to continue in full swing through the end of October. A variety of competitions and academic events have been organized, including a Quran memorization contest, an Islamic pop solo contest, a Banten education forum, and a strategic partnership with the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) regarding the strengthening and development of religious moderation, as outlined by the head of the research center, the head of the center for religious moderation, and the bureau chief.
To conclude the event, Dr. Ali Muhtarom expressed his deep appreciation and gratitude to the staff of the Maulana Hasanuddin Sultanate of Banten Administration for their warm welcome and patience in facilitating the university delegation, while also apologizing for the delegation’s late arrival due to several technical difficulties encountered during the trip.
