FUDA - Friday (June 20, 2025) - The Arabic Language and Literature Study Program, Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten held an academic activity entitled Gender and Literature Seminar on Friday, June 20, 2025. This activity took place in the Hall of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab on the second floor, this seminar carries the theme “Dismantling Gender Representation in Literature: Women's Voices, Resistance, and Identity in a Patriarchal Culture.” This activity is part of the implementation of the final project of the Gender and Literature course taught by Mr. Mohamad Rohman, M.Ag.

The Head of the Arabic Language and Literature Study Program, Hatta Raharja, M.A., in his speech expressed his appreciation for the implementation of this seminar. According to him, this kind of scientific forum not only hones students“ public speaking skills, but also provides a space to practice the theories and research methodologies that have been learned in class. ”This is a real step for students to become young intellectuals who are sensitive to contemporary issues through a literary approach," he said.

The seminar was scheduled for three batches and the first batch presented sixth-semester class A students as presenters. They presented the results of literary studies focused on the issue of gender representation and feminism in literary works from various cultural and ideological backgrounds. This study shows that the world of literature is not just a narrative space, but also a field of social criticism against patriarchal constructions that shackle women.

The speakers in the first batch included Maratussolikha who explored the male figure in the novel Perempuan di Titik Nol from the perspective of radical feminism. Then, Annisa Ihda Amalia studied the stereotypes and resistance of Keiko's character in Gadis Minimarket. Followed by Aeva who highlighted the pressure of patriarchal culture in Hujan di Penghujung Kemarau, and Aisyah Purwati who discussed the inequality and social burden of women in Dua Garis Biru. Closing the session, Alysia Naya Z.S explained the gender identity conflict in the novel Aku Lupa Bahwa Aku Perempuan by Ihsan Abdul Quddus.

The seminar was enthusiastically welcomed by the academic community, especially students from various batches who attended as participants. By strengthening critical discourse on gender issues through literary works, this activity is not only an academic event, but also an intellectual empowerment space that opens the eyes to social realities that are often hidden in literary texts. The next batch is scheduled to be filled by other classes with equally interesting and relevant topics.
