To Foster an Academic Environment, FUDA UIN Banten Hones Students’ Critical Thinking Skills Through Structured Thematic Quran and Hadith Seminars

SERANG — The Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab (FUDA) at Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin (SMH) State Islamic University (UIN) in Banten, through its Educational Media Laboratory, organized an academic initiative in the form of a Structured Thematic Quran and Hadith Seminar. The event was attended by dozens of FUDA students, with a focus on participation from students in the Quranic Studies and Exegesis and Hadith Studies programs.

This seminar is designed to systematically disseminate students’ ideas by dividing the presentation sessions into four thematic clusters. First Cluster: Discusses fundamental issues regarding Theology, Spirituality, and Values of Life Balance. Second Cluster: Focuses on discourse surrounding Psychology, Self-Management, and Mental Health. Third Cluster: Examines social dynamics within the themes of Family, Education, Gender, and Interpersonal Relationships. Fourth Cluster: Exploring contemporary challenges through the themes of Digital Ethics, Public Communication, and Science and Technology Insights. To ensure the quality of the discourse and sharpen the analysis in students’ written work, each cluster is directly guided by reviewer experienced in their respective fields.

Mohamad Alif, Head of the Educational Media Laboratory at FUDA UIN SMH Banten, stated that this event is a strategic effort to contextualize religious texts within modern realities. “We designed this thematic seminar so that students can engage in dialogue between the sacred texts of the Quran and the Hadith and various contemporary issues, ranging from mental health problems to ethics in the digital age. This is the first time this activity has been held, and in the future it will be expanded to include all students in the programs offered by FUDA," he explained.

This academic initiative received full support from the faculty leadership. The Dean of FUDA, Masykur, emphasized that the event aligns with the faculty’s vision of producing graduates who are responsive to the changing times. “We strongly support the efforts of the Educational Media Laboratory. This seminar demonstrates that Islamic discourse at FUDA does not stop at the interpretation of classical texts but is capable of offering solutions to societal problems,” stated the Dean of FUDA in his remarks.

Similar support was also expressed by Endang Saeful Anwar, Third Associate Dean of FUDA. He highlighted the importance of the long-term impact of this seminar on the intellectual tradition and academic atmosphere on campus.

“We hope this seminar will foster a more vibrant academic atmosphere among FUDA students. Furthermore, we encourage this momentum to spur the formation of independent writing groups, so that students” works can eventually be published more widely,” stated the Third Associate Dean.

Through a thematic approach and structured mentoring, this program is expected to become a regular event that can address students’ needs in honing their research, public communication, and academic writing skills.
