2nd KINMU National Student Webinars Successfully Held, Highlighting the Relationship between Islamic Theology and Artificial Intelligence

PADANG - The Faculty of Ushuluddin and Religious Studies (FUSA) of Imam Bonjol State Islamic University (UIN) Padang has successfully organized a series of KINMU National Student Webinars the second series held online through the Zoom platform on Monday, May 25, 2026. With the current theme of “Islamic Theology and Artificial Intelligence”, this academic forum is a strategic discourse space in responding to the development of technological disruption through the lens of religious science.

This activity presented the Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Adab UIN Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin (SMH) Banten, Dr. Masykur, M.Hum., who acted as the speaker. Keynote Speaker. In his presentation, he thoroughly explored the philosophical framework and ethical challenges that arise when Islamic Theology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) respond to Sexual Violence in Islamic Boarding Schools in the Perspective of Philosophy of Religion. According to him, sexual violence in religious spaces is not just an individual deviation, but a moral evil born from the abuse of freedom, power, and sacred symbols.

“Some conclusions from what was presented that cases of sexual violence in pesantren must be read as a theological crisis, not just a legal crisis. So the principle of tauḥīd dismantles absolute authority with ‘adl and mercy demanding the recovery of victims. AI can support safeguarding, but must comply with trust, privacy, justice, and human dignity,” he explained.

Responding to the urgency of this study, the Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and Religious Studies of UIN Imam Bonjol Padang, Dr. Sefriyono, M.Pd., gave high appreciation for the implementation of this event and the active involvement of students from various regions.

“The theme raised in this second series is very relevant to the challenges of the times. The shift in civilization due to artificial intelligence requires an adaptive and comprehensive theological response. Through this forum, we hope that students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin will not only become observers of technology, but will be able to formulate ethical and theological footing in responding to AI advances. Collaborative initiatives like this are essential to strengthen students” critical reasoning at the national level," he said.

The discussion was interactive with the guidance of moderator Rafiatul Hasanah from UIN Imam Bonjol Padang. This forum is more comprehensive with the presence of seven resource persons who are representatives of excellent students from seven Ushuluddin Faculties throughout Indonesia. The success of the second series of KINMU National Student Webinars proves that the climate for research and study among Ushuluddin students continues to develop dynamically. This activity is expected to be a strong foothold for more massive inter-institutional research collaboration in the future.
